STEICOflex: High-Performance Natural Insulation

Ditch mineral wool and synthetic foams for breathable, plant-based thermal comfort.

Designed for roof rafters, timber frame systems, and suspended timber floors, flexible wood fibre insulation batts actively balance humidity rather than trapping it. Unlike standard synthetic insulation that risks moisture buildup and timber rot, wood fibre breathes naturally—absorbing and releasing moisture vapour while maintaining peak thermal performance.

  •

Summer Heat Protection: Outstanding thermal mass and phase shift keep intense heat out during summer and lock warmth in during winter.

  •

Clean & Non-Toxic: Much less itching, and most importantly no off-gassing. Please note the product is very dusty to install, but completely safe once installed for your indoor air quality. However, PPE must be used during the installation process, as cutting is very dusty.

  •

Acoustic Isolation: Dense, fibrous matrix absorbs street noise and airborne sound far better than lightweight EPS foams.

  •

Historic Masonry Friendly: Fully vapour-open, safeguarding traditional stone, brick, and lime structures against trapped damp.

STEICO Rigid Boards: Continuous Exterior & Structural Protection

Eliminate thermal bridging with dense, weather-tight wood fibre panels.

Ideal for external roof sarking, external wall sheathing, and underfloor applications, rigid boards like STEICOuniversal and STEICOtherm deliver superior compressive strength alongside thermal efficiency. Sourced from sustainably managed forests, they form a solid, continuous shell around your building envelope.

    •

Climate Buffering: High hygroscopic capacity naturally regulates indoor relative humidity and eliminates interstitial condensation.

    •

Integrated Weatherproofing: Precision tongue-and-groove edges interlock for a windproof, rain-resistant secondary layer during construction.

    •

Carbon Storing: Captures and stores more atmospheric carbon during tree growth than is used in manufacturing and transport.

    •

Efficient Build Times: Mounts directly over rafters or stud walls to create a fast, rigid, walk-on substrate.

    • Lime Application: Supports Diasen Lime render system (and others). Mandatory vapour-open primer application with a small loss in vapour permeability. A small price to pay to avoid delamination in extreme climates.

STEICOprotect: The Breathable Exterior Render Carrier

A high-density alternative to synthetic EPS and XPS facade systems.

Traditional synthetic ETICS wrap buildings in non-breathable plastic, trapping humidity inside the envelope. STEICOprotect provides a rigid, vapour-permeable substrate engineered specifically for direct application of traditional lime renders, mineral finishes, and interior clay plasters.

      •

Direct Lime Application: Formulated to bond seamlessly with breathable lime and silicate renders without synthetic primers or membranes. However, this depends heavily on the lime system, and not using a primer may void your lime system guarantee. For external applications, we recommend consultation with your lime supplier. A loss in a small percentage of vapour permeability is a small price to pay to avoid delamination in extreme climates.

      •

Superior Sound Dampening: Absorbs exterior noise and reverberation rather than echoing like hollow foam boards.

      •

High Impact Resistance: Denser and tougher than polystyrene, giving your facade durable protection against everyday knocks and weather exposure.

      •

Envelope Longevity: Allows the building fabric to transpire naturally, keeping structural walls dry, healthy, and rot-free.

        Nationwide Distribution & Direct Expertise

ECS offers some of the most competitive pricing on genuine Steico wood fibre insulation anywhere in Spain, backed by direct project support and reliable delivery logistics. While Phill and I install these specialist systems on select projects in Western Asturias, ECS distributes nationwide to sites throughout the country.

Upgrade to Wood Fibre with ECS

Natural building materials don’t compromise on technical performance—they leave petrochemical alternatives behind. When we advise you on a roof retrofit or a full exterior lime-render system, it isn’t academic theory. We spend our days actually putting up Steico on site, fitting it into everything from century-old stone restorations to modern frames. The technical support and consultancy we give you at ECS comes straight from that hard graft on the ground.

Ready to specify breathable insulation for your project? Contact the ECS team for technical guidance, material calculations, and delivery schedules.
