Asturias – March 2026 — This April, ECS is relaunching its specialist land rehabilitation and clearing service across Western Asturias. The service is designed specifically for clients who have recently purchased rural property and need a professional team to handle the heavy work of reclaiming overgrown land.

Buying a property in rural Asturias often means inheriting decades of thick scrub, gorse, and collapsed stone structures. ECS provides the heavy machinery and labour needed to restore these neglected sites to usable gardens, pastures, or building plots.

Site Clearing with Flail Mowers

For most new owners, the first challenge is simply getting access to the land. ECS uses special 1.2m wide (good for restricted access) tractors fitted with flail mowers (heavy-duty hammer mowers) to deal with the region’s dense vegetation. Yes, this can be done with trimmers, but the finish is not the same.

These machines don’t just cut the brush; they mulch it. The heavy metal hammers pulverise thick brambles, gorse, and small trees on the spot. This quickly clears and flattens the ground, improves the soil, and saves the owner the cost and hassle of hauling away tonnes of green waste.

Excavating and Clearing Historic Structures

Many properties in Western Asturias come with historic stone ruins, old barns, or “callers” (historic mining or cellar entrances). ECS provides a dedicated team to help owners uncover and clear these features:

  • Property Clear-outs: Removing decades of accumulated rubble, old timber, and debris from inside stone buildings to prepare them for surveyors or builders.

  • Caller Excavation: Carefully digging out buried entrances and stone foundations that have been lost under soil and vegetation over time.

  • Levelling and Access: Creating vehicle tracks and clearing flat areas for future construction or landscaping.

By clearing the land and exposing the original stonework, ECS helps new owners move their renovation projects forward without the delay of hand-clearing the site.

The unique climate of Western Asturias offers a very narrow window for effective land rehabilitation. To ensure the best results for your property, we strongly recommend booking your project as early as possible.

While the region is breathtakingly green, that beauty comes from high rainfall. Outside the peak summer months, the ground remains heavily saturated—often at up to 80% water. Attempting to move machinery or excavate soil in these conditions is inefficient, messy, and can damage the long-term integrity of your land.

Our clearing service, run by Phil and Abi, and our reclamation service are popular, and our summer schedule fills up fast! To avoid the mud and ensure your site is cleared while the ground is firm and workable, please reach out to discuss your requirements.

Please get in touch with Abi or Phil via our contact form if you require further details or a quote. We also provide professional horticultural services, including garden design and plant selection, in partnership with a world-class specialist.
