Hemp

Hemp Insulation: The “No-Itch” Performance Layer

Replace mineral wool and synthetic foams with a material that breathes.

Our flexible hemp insulation batts (such as Hemplith Flex) are the ultimate solution for roof rafters, timber frame walls, and suspended floors. Unlike conventional insulation that can trap moisture and degrade wood, hemp fibres are naturally hygroscopic—they absorb and release humidity without losing thermal efficiency.

  • Thermal Inertia: Keeps your home cool in the blistering Spanish summer and warm in the winter.

  • Health First: No itching, no irritation, and zero VOC off-gassing. Safe for installers and residents alike.

  • Acoustic Comfort: The dense fibre structure offers superior sound dampening compared to lightweight synthetic foams.

  • Heritage Safe: Fully vapour-permeable, making it the perfect choice for breathable historic retrofits.

Hemp Blocks: The Solid Wall Solution

Insulation and masonry in one monolithic block.

For solid-wall insulation or new-build infill, Hemp Blocks (Hemplith Hempstone) offer a unique combination of thermal mass and insulation. These blocks are a mixture of hemp “shiv” (the woody core) and natural lime, creating a lightweight yet rigid building block.

  • Regulation: The lime-hemp matrix provides a large moisture buffer, automatically regulating indoor humidity to a healthy 40-60%.

  • Fire & Pest Resistant: Naturally fireproof and resistant to termites and mould due to the alkalinity of the lime.

  • Carbon Negative: These blocks lock away more CO2 during their growth and curing than is emitted during their production.

  • Simple Application: Can be used as internal solid wall insulation (SWI) or as the primary wall structure in timber frames, ready to be rendered directly with our lime or clay plasters.

Hemp Boards: The Alternative to Plasterboard

Forget gypsum. Built with robust, acoustic, and breathable panels.

Standard plasterboard (drywall) effectively seals your walls with paper and gypsum, often blocking the breathability of the structure behind it. Our Hemp Building Boards and Silentlith panels offer a robust, breathable alternative for internal partitions and ceilings.

  • Direct Plastering: Specifically designed as a “plaster carrier” board. You can apply our Clayworks or natural lime plasters directly onto the surface without the need for toxic primers.

  • Acoustic Performance: While plasterboard reflects sound, hemp boards absorb it, significantly reducing echo and noise transfer between rooms.

  • Robustness: Denser and stronger than standard gypsum board, providing a solid feel to your partition walls.

  • True Breathability: Ensures that your internal finish layer does not become a vapour barrier, maintaining the full “breathable ecosystem” of your walls.

Ready to build better?

Hemp is not just an alternative; it is an upgrade. Whether you need Hemplith Flex for your roof or Hemp Blocks for your extension, EcoConil handles the technical complexities and logistics.
